Hands of the World
We have been invited to join an international project called “Hands of the World,” created by a teacher in Scotland. The project brings children around the world together through the use of music and Makaton, a type of sign language used in multiple countries to help people with communication disorders and disabilities communicate. Each month, a song is chosen and classrooms around the world are assigned to learn the Makaton signs for one line of the song. The students are recorded signing and the short video clip is uploaded to the project coordinator, who knits all the videos together to make one video that has “many hands from around the world.” For the month of February, there will be 22 countries and 42 schools involved. The age range is 4 -18+. We will be the first students from the United States to participate in this global project!
Update: The Hands of the World project has been honored by the British Council!
